Illuminating Deep-Sea Diversity off Puerto Rico

Only a few miles off the coast of Puerto Rico lie extensive, complex habitats, including submarine canyons, ridges, and banks, that likely harbor a rich and diverse fauna. We will conduct baseline characterization and exploration of these habitats, from the surface to the seafloor, at depths down to 2500 m. We will also be using emerging technologies and methodologies to advance the scope and efficiency of ocean exploration in Puerto Rico’s deep sea.
