Do you like cold water corals? Are you passionate about marine conservation? Are you new to deep sea exploration and want to learn more? This expedition is the one for you!
We will be visiting several planned and potential areas for coral conservation located in the Gulf of Maine and along the continental slope off Nova Scotia, Canada and New England, USA, including submarine canyons! To assess how effective these protected areas are, we need to be able to monitor them for many decades to come. This is particularly important because corals are long-lived and slow growing. We will also visit areas that could become new conservation areas, as part meeting the target of protecting 30% of our oceans by 2030 (30×30). During the cruise, we will livestream some our dives and will be discussing various topics on marine conservation, monitoring strategies in the deep-sea and more, so join us this summer, starting 17 July 2024.
